Lakeview Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Inductees

The Lakeview Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Black Box Theatre, located inside Lakeview High School. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Social time to meet the inductees will start at 4:30p.m. with the ceremony and presentation of inductees to begin at 5p.m. This is LHS’s 24th Hall of Fame class. Including this year’s induction class, the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame consists of 132 former athletes and ten coaches. Please join us as we celebrate this year’s inductees. JAKE BIVENS - CLASS OF 2014 Jake was a multi-sport athlete with accolades in Baseball and Basketball, but it was baseball that Jake excelled in as a talented middle infielder and clutch hitter for the Spartans. He was a four-time All-City honoree, a three-time All-Conference & All-District player, a two-time First Team All-State & MHSAA Dream Team member. and was selected to play in the MHSAA East/West All-Star Game at Comerica Park. Jake ranks 4th all-time for his single season batting average of (.509) and holds the single season hits record with 58 hits. After LHS, Jake went on to play at the University of Michigan where he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten Freshman Team, and All-Big Ten. He played for U of M for 3 seasons and after his junior year was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the MLB Draft. He played one season with Detroit’s minor league team before injury resulted in his retirement from baseball. TONY EVANS - GOLF & WRESTLING COACH Tony coached men’s and women’s golf for a collective 37 years (18 men’s; 19 women’s). During that time, his teams won several Conference, District and Regional championships. He had 15 teams finish in the Top 10 of the MHSAA State Finals - including 5 Team State Runners-up and 2 Team State Championships. During his coaching career, he was blessed to have some extremely successful golfers including 5 individual state champions and 4 Mr. Golf Award Winners. In recognition of these accomplishments, he received Coach of the Year honors multiple times at the Regional and State levels. When he wasn’t coaching golf, you could find Tony on the mats. Where he coached our Spartan wrestling teams for 12 years. His teams and athletes saw much success during this time. Winning 6 All-City Championships, 4 District, and one Conference Championship. He coached 22 individual State Qualifiers, 14 All-State wrestlers and 5 Individual State Champions. Tony graduated from Harper Creek HS in 1985 and started his teaching career with Lakeview in 1994 where he retired in 2019. DAN LEIGHTON - CLASS OF 1984 Dan was a multi-sport athlete at Lakeview with many accolades in both basketball and track. As a Center / Power Forward he made his presence known as a rebounder and shot blocker, but also had a reliable mid-range shot. Dan was a two-time All-City, All-Conference, All-Region and All-State performer, as well as District MVP. He was the Team MVP and Captain and selected to play in the MHSAA All-Star game. Dan still owns both Lakeview Spartan basketball rebounding records: career rebounds & single-season rebounds. He ranks fourth in single season scoring and sixth in career scoring. In addition to basketball, Dan was a two-time All-City High Jump Champion. He set the LHS record in the High Jump at 6’6”. Earning him All-Conference and All-State honors. After high school, Dan took his basketball talents to the University of Toledo for a season and Western Michigan University for 3 seasons. At Western, he was a key “big man” in their program, delivering some clutch performances against rivals CMU (scoring 15 pts) and Akron (scoring 20) while setting a WMU single game FG % record at 9 for 10 shooting. MIKE MCGINNIS - TENNIS COACH Mike was a decorated Varsity Tennis Coach for nearly 20 years for the Spartans. Coaching both men’s and women’s tennis until his retirement in 2015. During this time, his teams won 18 Regional championships, and he took two of his teams to the State Finals finishing as runners-up. Over the years, he has coached some extremely successful tennis players including 59 All-State performers and a whopping 12 individual state champions and multiple MHSAA Mr. / Ms. Tennis Honorees. As a result of these accomplishments, Mike was a three-time MHSAA Coach of the Year, two-time Regional Coach of the Year, and US Professional Tennis Association Coach of the Year. Sadly, Mike passed away on May 30, 2024, at the age of 71. JACK PARKER - CLASS OF 1968 Jack started his high school athletic journey with dreams of being a basketball player. But standing at just 5’4” the fall of his junior year, he made the switch to swimming and diving, where he would be named All-Conference and qualify for the State meet. Jack’s most significant athletic accomplishments came after high school at Oakland University, where he was Oakland’s first All-American diver, and eventually became a 7-time NCAA All-American Diver - 3 times on the one meter springboard, and 4 times on the three-meter springboard and finished 2nd place at the NCAA swimming and diving championships. He set school records at Oakland in both the one- and three-meter events which stood for 13 years. As a result of these successes, he was inducted into the Oakland University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Parker went on to a widely successful medical career.
